Talking Positive...

Talking positive to kids…

This is what I believed from the time when I started thinking of bringing up kids.

But v shd set the limits n off the bounds also..
But I shd also confess that I have scolded Yuvan too many a times. when he really goes over the board or does something purposely even after understanding it!!!

But I should also agree. He has been a very very understanding Kid in more ways ..Talking really helps…with him..

SO now I have vowed myself that I shd make him understand more by talking a lot in to him…but off course the limits will b there n I will let him know abt it too..and there will b teaching him the hard way too at times when he really needs it!!!Confusing?
But..Thats what I m..!!!!he he he he
But I hope I’m trying to b a good parent!!!
Neither falling in..”always no”…”always yes” (As my blogger friend Angel had sd..neither in any of the categories.!!! YES …me too)

Coming to talking to positive kids. I believe n understand n practice ( now a lot of talking goin on with yuvan...)it many a times..( trying to make the "many a times" to most of the times")
For eg…It makes a lot of difference when u say “Yuvan…Its hard. Try to open it safely….be careful”(on a door/fridge…whatever) than saying “Yuvan..Noooooo..Dont do it!!!its heavy..” Also, even if they get a pinch of pain but nothing serious itz ok..they do realize it n do it more careful next time…as I have agreed with Angel on
experience talks more than 1000 warnings..
When we know our kids are growing up as more understanding kids,v feel more relaxed, more confident, more on control ....talking helps more but setting limits n off bounds need to there as well..

Whenever Yuv tries to bang his indoor scooter/cycle, a little harder by pulling it up n then on to the floor. First I told him..”no u cant do it..”he kept doing it. Then I tried other way. Since he likes babies a lot…I told him.."Yuvan u know rt that there’s a baby rt below our house??? if u bang like this baby can’t sleep n u are disturbing others..as well in the process u will fall backwards n hurt yourself..”(demonstrating how he wd fall..)

Now he seldom does it..when he does it..before I react he will tell me “ amma..baby..n then shows action for sleeping..” meaning baby is sleeping..n then rides properly…then I say.."pls Yuvan pl u are not supposed do it!!!..as it gonna hurt u as well others"

This is one eg..i hope it happens with all kids…But I do agree..there is a time when they really start understanding. it differs from every Kid!!!

But sure shot Try IT..it works wonders many a times...BUt m not saying that there shd be no Limits set nor any hard way lessons learned thingi..but try talking in to them a lot!!!they grow up more understanding..loving n they do things by simple n proper understanding rather than for the fear of getting scoldings from Mum/Dad

As therez always a thing that shd be in every parent's mindset “ Do not compare Kids. Every Kid is an Individual”

Scare Continues......

Mmmmmm...My scare continues...

Called up the teacher on wednesday...she told me the attendance was "ZERO" on wednesday's Yuv's batch..so the 8 kids who came on Monday slowly went to zero by wednesday...dont know whether any of them Contracted HFMD..or at home Like Yuv coz of Mothers like me...!!!

So i decided to hold back Yuv till Monday!!!

And the HFMD cases are up by 12% compared to last week ending Apr 12!!! says Health Ministry ,Singapore....

So wat else i can do?Keep Clean yuv's hand..foot n his daily baths have risen from 3- 4 times (normally- morning, back from school, evening hand, foot face wash, back from play, before going to bed!) to 5- 6 times...

I Hope n pray that Yuvan passes thru this without contracting it!!!

Scare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????

Scare!!!???

Yuvan 's PlaySchool was closed for three days from last Thursday!!n then i sent him in half hearted on Monday..n teacher told me..""all fumigated" one new case yesterday..but she had been to school from Wednesday..so fumigation is effective..
u can send him today!!! "so total attendance was 8/15..two parents came back n took the kids home 30mts into the class...

wat is all about??? Its all on Hand Foot and Mouth Disease !!!

The whole last month i have been hearing from Yuv's playmates Mom's at the Playground,
that ITz in air..and they are worried..i was also given the pamphlet on symptoms..all those things at the playgroup..1 week passed by.....then... on last Thursday..went to leave Yuv
at school 5 mins late....(we were already getting late...rt down at first floor in lift..Yuv said he wants to do potty....i sd ok...n took him back home..then he tried..no luck...rushed him to school")..,i saw all kids n parents standing outside..teacher was telling that One of the kids in Yuv's batch had got it n so how?so none of us want to send them..then school was also closed for three days as per regulation...

fumigated n opened on Monday..Then it was all happened what u read in the beginning!!!

When i picked Yuv up..teacher sd" one kid couldn't eat.. so watch out" - to the parent!!!
So i was so confused whether to send Yuvan the next day( ie today )or not?

But ultimately My confusion won!! called up the teacher n told her that m holding back Yuv for two days!!!she too told me.."OK..will update u tomo evening!!!"

What i donn want is (I hope Yuv wont get it) for him to get this mildly also which may have an impact on him!!!!on everything..physically...his talking skills...and what pain these kiddos will go thru!!

i dunno..m worried!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Hope Yuv doesn't get it n Pray that all Kids get well soon!!!!

This is a recipe which yuv liked from 8 months..only difference is that when he was 8 months n uptill 18 months i used to cook beetroot with rice as said in my older post n put in mixer!

2. Same recipe can b done with carrot instead of beet root!!
Here u go...Some info on beetroot n a few recipes from the web.... All about Beetroot

Life's Lessons learned - I

Bringing My Son up, I have learned a few important lessons, which I always thought so..but never believed until I went through it myself!

First n foremost, Kids will reach their milestones when they are really capable off. both physically n mentally!!
and every kid is a difft Individual!

For eg..Yuvan Turned himself less than 3 months old. but never did it again n frequently until he was 4 months complete.

But he DID!!- When he was ready!!

He started moving on the floor by 6 months but crawled by 8 months..but surprisingly he started standing with support by 7 months onwards...

Before he started crawling ppl from all quarters of my life kept asking me
hasn't he started crawling yet?
But he DID when he was actually ready!

Then it all started .by 9-10 months. Why hasn’t he started walking????

And ppl started telling us that we shd teach him walk holding his hands...which we did try but Yuvan disliked being helped. rather to b apt he wanted to b independent for his age..

I personally too believed when Yuv feels Physically capable n mentally confident to walk he WILL!”
And YES n he DID..10 days before he turned 1...- when he was ready!

n wd u believe he started a few steps out of the blue one day!! and the second day he was just cruising along as if he has been walking rt from the time he was born!!!

Then was the language part!! Which stressed me n scared me to my every cell..
He did say "Amma" (Mother in Tamil)when he was 18 months but he never repeated. but he used to blabber a lot...communicate with gestures. Literally he could understand a lot of things, follow instructions, cooperating well for the potty training. but yet no clear words...

And i have heard that "hasn't he started talking yet?" a more than 1000 times...

Words of confidence n experiences came along from all our frens, my Chinese neighbors...
U keep talking to him,
Boys are a bit slower compared to girls..
u wont believe my daughter never uttered a word till she turned TWO..but suddenly she started and from there no stopping...

also ...
u shd communicate more..
chk with the doc...- which i indeed did with his paed..but he told me..he is a very normal kid. not to worry ..He is well ahead in all his milestones n he is blabbering communicating with gestures. he will pick up sooner!!

I made a visit to India for a two month vacation ,

I did take him to his paed in India and he assured me too not to worry n said there is still more time ..n he will pick up!!

Yuv was 2 months short to two then he had so many ppl around he picked up a few words. but still not to all of our expectations...

But all that mattered when i came back to SG..after exactly two weeks. he was 2 years n one month. he started talking a lot of words he had heard back in India..n now picks a lot of words from his day to activities!! n he started communicating with words...to be precise he started to have Conversations!!!

and he is literally learning at least one new word a day....hi vocabulary list has improved leaps n bounds i shd say...fully potty trained, nights i make him go
su-su every 2 hrs..sometimes he does wake me up by himself and does let me know whenever he wants to do potty n he literally is off diaper completely..n enjoys play school a lot..Understands both English n Tamil – our mother tongue perfectly that we started speaking with spellings at home at times..learns words form both the languages n tries to converse in both!!!

Another eg..he never liked to watch phonics when 4 months back. Now wannna watch only that n picks a lot of words from the CD..takes his picture book..relates n shows n tells me what that word is. And also asks me teach new words n tries to repeat!!!

And even now i hear from many ppl " why he hasn't started talking
full-fledged??"
But now m very confident n i know Yuvan will speak up with lots of sentences sooner and he is already geared up for that n he will b ready n doing the task sometime sooner!!!
Now i Know n believe kids WILL, at the rt age appropriate for them in their own individual way!!!

and Thank You My Son...n u are a So precious n u have taught and teaching me many a lessons from life...
And i Love u My Son!!!

Satisfying a Toddlerz Taste Buds

My Son's taste buds have changed over the time..from the time he started eating solids (once he completed 3 months) till now( 2years n 2 months)...And with the help of my very good fren Shazia n a lot of researching by myself..i somehow accomplished the task that My son likes to eat all veggies...n also egg, chicken n fish.. and so i thought i shd share these xperiences and recipes which may b helpful for first time momz like me...

So i decided to write about those under a separate label.." Toddler'z taste Budzz" under which i will compile all the recipes which will b in accordance with our day to day cooking..as well My son wd have luved eating it.. But i worry that i may not b able to post the pictures!!!!!

I will try posting some of the interesting things that happened when my son ate these for the first time...i wd love to write a lot on him..which shdn't b only sharing but also informative..that's what i feel!! so Let me get going!!!

To start with a simple recipe combining veggies, cereal n rice which is suitable from 6 months..until his taste buds changes for more variety..(he he he)

Lunch/Dinner For a 6 month old (onwards..)
Required:
Rice - one handful
Toor dhal - 1/2 handful
Vegetables- 1/2 cup
Garlic - one clove
Small onion - 2
Cumin seeds - a lil
salt- lil to taste

Method:
Pressure all together ..with required water..give 10-12 whistles...Then mash together with a spoon when hot...add ghee..n serve!!

Note:Vegetables can b started with carrot, beetroot initially and then cauliflower, potato( don mash with rice..as it becomes sticky..),beans,broad beans and then once u r sure the kid is not allergic to any of these,u can combine accordingly to give diff tastes every day!!
Dhal too..can use green moong dhal full, yellow moong dhal split or a combination!!!

My Lil Tadpole!!!

Its been 5 posts now..n i My son will kick me if i donn introduce him ..Yes..I have a Son Named Yuvan..who is 2 years n 2 months old..

Yuvan Means -Young Man

So he is a very very active toddler..Luves To play with balls..a lot.!!like to play outdoor.. go for a walk...now -a days his latest passions are his new tricycle n his own Badminton racquets..Plays all the while inside teh home with his racquet in his own way..keeping the racquet down on the floor, then on to it the shuttle n then lifts the racquet n swings..n he luves it!!n does it again n again until he is tired of it..n then goes cyclinggggggg..

Itz been a month since he started his play school..got new frens n the teacher says all the four Indians at the playschool has formed a "GANG" n all all "active" i pity the teacher!!
He luves going to school..carries his own back pack..walks all the way to school n back...mmmm

He was stressing me a lot on his language part until 3 months back..But now after a2 months vacation to India n now to playschool..he has started a quite a lot of words..tries to communicate more with words rather than gestures!!
his recent inclusion to the vocabulary are "come, give, tub"

Forgot to mention..His fav cartoon charachter in Mickey Mouse..he's mad behind MM i shd say,..he chose his water bottle with Mickey n Minnie..sleeps with Mickey Plush toy by his side!!Luves to watch n dance like mad for Mickey Mouse Club house!!!

Fidel Castro!!!

F-I-D-E-L C-A-S-T-R-O!!!

One of the few "Dictators" quite a lot of people liked(forget abt US..for the record according to Cuban Intelligence ,The US tried to assassinate him 638 times...n all failed attempts!!)including his country men (n women ..??- i have always felt there shd b be a term called Country women or rather call in general Country-people???-do i sound very feminist???)

I Liked reading abt him a lot rather saying i liked him a lot!!( and all these info are compiled for what i read abt Castro thru various sites)

What tempted me to blog on Fidel Castro? The news that 81 year old Castro resigned after 5 decades of his rule as Cuban President (citing medical reasons)Successfully coming thru the economic embargo Imposed on Cuba until now..

But he did open 10,000 new schools, erasing illiteracy and building a universal health care system.

But liberties like right to strike by labour unions were taken away, independent newspapers were shut down and religious institutions harassed. Hundreds of thousands of Cubans have fled Castro's rule, many settling just across the Florida Straits in Miami.
But Still Cuba survived as a Socialist State which he declared on April 16,1961.

And i shd say he has Accomplished what he wanted for Cuba, being born n brought up in a rich family amid poverty surrounding most of the Cuban Families in twenties''
He went on to Study Law at the University of Havana n offered free legal services For the poor ..n then he was involved as one of the 150 warriors in Throwing out Batista...But the attempt resulted in a failure..then he as tried and jailed for 15 years..then he came out on amnesty after serving jus two years!!

Then he went to Mexico..as he had planned to train n group his men to throw Batista out of power. He met "Che" Guevara.. ,( My another admiration - reading abt him..will blog a lil later..may b next??)from where there was no turning back.. very interestingly he is not only a revolutionary icon but also a President who was always linked to some or the other controversies!

To cite a few..

1.I have read that he used to open up the borders to let Cuban people cross over the waters mostly to Florida..like in 1980 he let 125,000 people flee to Florida by boat through the Mariel port, west of Havana, when Soviet Union split n sent Cuban economy in to bad shape he again opened up the Borders!
2. He also ran a rough run with the Catholic church until recently in 1998 Castro Invited Pope John Paul II to Cuba..
3.In 1999, Castro launched an anti-U.S. campaign for the return of Elian Gonzalez, a six-year-old Cuban boy rescued at sea after surviving a shipwreck that killed his mother. Gonzalez then returned to Cuba in 2000 after his father flew to the U.S. to claim his son.
so But I have always have had an admiration for this Cuban President who smoked cigars in public, had 8 children with four women!!

"Mother " Understood!

For the first time in the recent past..i read a forward again and again and it made me feel every time more in a familiar territory!!!
sometimes i felt great.. awesome..sometimes happy to know that there's been people to forward nice things that indirectly tells what really a mother Means when v look back...

Personally, when i read the forward ,i pictured my MOM first n then Me in the same Scenario..I felt our Mothers have done all these more than us n very interestingly ...v as Kids have not bothered much to acknowledge them ,in a proper way!!Though v have always realised to a certain extent n Jus love our Momzzz...!!

But i started realising all the intricate feelings of a mother only when My LIL Baby Boy started growing up on to a Toddler!!!

Quite interesting though...v realise things only when v actually are in that particular shoe rather than "thinking to be in their shoes" n reacting...realising for a matter of fact though..

Now on to the Forward i received sometime last week which made me feel Phenomenal!!
Though ..i always do a run through on the forwards i recieve keeping one finger on the Scroll Key...!! :-)
My frens dont send Forwards on n off as i used to write them back.." Hey__________, How dare u are sending me useless forwards.?????."so they Think Thrice not Twice before clicking that FWD button to me..he he he

Now Enjoy The Forward ......

Mum and Dad were watching TV when Mum said, "I'm tired, and it's getting late. I think I'll go to bed"

She went to the kitchen to make sandwiches for the next day's lunches.Rinsed out the dogs bowls, took meat out of the freezer for supper the following evening, checked the cereal box levels, filled the sugar container, put spoons and bowls on the table and added all the mixture to the bread maker for hot bread for the next morning.

She then, put some wet clothes in the dryer and a load of clothes into the washer, ironed a shirt and secured a loose button. She picked up the game pieces left on the table, put the phone back on the charger and put the telephone book into the drawer. She watered the plants, emptied a wastebasket and hung up a towel to dry.She yawned and stretched and headed for the bedroom.

She stopped by the desk and wrote a note to the teacher, counted out some cash for the field trip, and pulled a text book out from hiding under a chair.

She signed a birthday card for a friend, addressed and stamped the envelope and wrote a quick note for the grocery store. She put both near her purse.

Mum then washed her face with 3 in 1 cleanser, put on her night solution & age fighting moisturizer, brushed and flossed her teeth and filed her nails.

Dad called out, "I thought you were going to bed.""I'm on my way," she said.

She put some water into the dog's dish and put the cat outside, then made sure the doors were locked and the patio light was on.She looked in on each of the kids and turned out their bedside lamps and TV's, hung up a shirt, threw some dirty socks into the laundry, and had a brief conversation with the one up still doing homework

In her own room, she set the alarm; laid out clothing for the next day, straightened up the shoe rack. She added 3 things to her 6 most important things to do list. She said her prayers and visualized the accomplishment of her goals.

About that time, Dad turned off the TV and announced to no one in particular.
"I'm going to bed."And he did...without another thought.

Anything extraordinary here?
Wonder why women live longer...?CAUSE WE ARE MADE FOR THE LONG HAUL..... and we can't die sooner, we still have things to do!!!!

The Forward ended on a funny note though...

Please send this to five phenomenal women today... they'll love you for it! I just did.THEN, GO TO BED!

Hope U Felt Phenomenal!!! --- if u were a Female...Sorry For Males..but hope u guys feel Phenomenal for what a Woman u'r MOM,SIS N Wife are !!!-:)
